Whiskey flavors you never knew existed
By Matt Sidney
Kentucky Coffee whiskey
Coffee and whiskey, despite their contrasting effects as a stimulant and a depressant, have been combined to create coffee whiskey, capitalizing on their strong flavors. Devils River Whiskey from San Antonio innovates with a coffee bourbon made using cold brew prepared with whiskey instead of water, sweetened with agave. Jameson, known for its Irish heritage, offers a Cold Brew that nods to the traditional Irish coffee cocktail. Similarly, Kentucky Coffee’s whiskey appeals with its classic cowboy imagery, merging morning coffee rituals with evening whiskey relaxation into one beverage.
Dough Ball Cookie Dough Whiskey
Cookie dough has ventured into an unexpected territory with its infusion into whiskey, creating an indulgent blend. Dough Ball Cookie Dough Whiskey, produced by a family-owned company inspired by their love for cookies and their bulldog Dough Ball, has received positive reviews. Meanwhile, Ole Smoky Tennessee Distillery also explores this niche with its own Cookie Dough Whiskey and a Cookies & Cream Whiskey, both offering a dessert-like experience that combines the sweetness of baked goods with the robustness of whiskey. These innovative flavors suggest a whimsical alternative for festive occasions, potentially changing holiday traditions.
Rattlesnake Rosie's Maple Bacon whiskey
Bacon whiskey, an unusual yet intriguing blend, initially saw Ol’ Major Bacon Bourbon merge bacon and bourbon, although it was discontinued due to poor reviews. Rattlesnake Rosie’s Maple Bacon Bourbon, however, has successfully taken up the mantle, infusing bourbon with New York Grade A maple syrup and smoked bacon flavor, and winning “Best Flavored Whiskey” at the 2020 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. This niche flavor continues to appeal to those looking to experiment beyond traditional whiskey offerings.
